This painting reminds me of the first few days at Amal Academy

I still feel like it was yesterday when my journey at Amal started. The first two weeks at Amal were very interesting. I was nervous, excited and not really sure what I should expect. Joining Amal was also a bit out of the comfort zone for me as I got to do things I never thought I’d do like all the Project Work (which seemed daunting at first but now comes so easily to me), as well as being a Group Leader. I will always be thankful to Amal Academy for giving me experiences I will remember for the rest of my life. I had one of the best times of my life at Amal, although I wish they could have been in-person, however I am still thankful for this opportunity. My kind-hearted fellows and my amazing Program Managers made this experience very fruitful for me and I have all of them to thank for making me feel comfortable and accepted. And I want to thank Amal for also helping me learn so much about life and the knowledge I gained through our sessions as well as the online courses. I will cherish it forever.

As my journey at Amal was starting, I felt very excited and eager for this new opportunity. I knew from the very beginning that I would walk away from Amal feeling happy and fulfilled, and it holds true. I honestly felt as if the Project work might be a bit too much, but I quickly adjusted and adapted myself to the changing circumstances and it’s been a good ride ever since.

In the first few weeks, I learned to be confident within myself and speak up even if I felt shy. Amal really helped me get out of my shell and the sessions really helped with that. I was “forced” to interact with all of my Fellows during Group Activities which was very new territory for me because in my previous Academic life, I would just work with the people I felt comfortable with or was friends with. But at Amal, when I had to literally interact and engage with strangers, and that really helped me come out of my shell. I also learned to push myself and work hard to ensure the best quality work.

What I discovered about myself is that I have what it takes to achieve whatever it is on my mind. I am leaving this Fellowship with a profound sense of self worth. I also learned that I should always push myself and try out new things. They would surely change my life for the better. I also learned that I have the Leadership potential if I truly wanted to be one and that is something I discovered during my time as a Circle Leader.
